To survive and protect this vulnerable core, the individual developed opposing defense mechanisms, shifting toward their current Enneatype and repressing the Soul Child into the unconscious.

It helps avoid the trap of "spiritual bypassing", which involves using elevated spiritual concepts to flee from unresolved emotional wounds.
